New Research Associate for the Encyclopedia Project
The team of the Encyclopedia Project increased yet again when Jón Hjörleifur Stefánsson, the newest research associate, arrived on campus on October 27. Jón (pronounced as joining the words yo and own: yown) is currently a PhD candidate in dogmatics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and will be working with the ESDA team at Friedensau for one year.
Jón is from Iceland and finished his BA Theology and MA Religion at Andrews University in 2010 and 2013. His master’s thesis was on the history of the Adventist interpretation of Revelation 9. He commenced his doctoral studies in the autumn of 2014 and will finish them in 2019. His dissertation topic is apocalyptic dynamics (what factors play a role in changing prophetic interpretation) with a case study analyzing and comparing the interpretation of Daniel 8 in the writings of Martin Luther, Isaac Newton, William Miller, and Ellen White.
Besides apocalypticism and history, Jón’s interests are politics, languages, and drawing patterns.
